COMMUNITY
In 2014, I started running with Nike and IN Magazine. It's hard to believe that this fall marks our second year anniversary. That means 24 months worth of runs - WOW! This past year, IN Magazine has been promoting the #INRUNCREW, a Thursday evening run that is available to the greater LGBTQQIP2SAA community.
What initially started off as an influencer/ambassador program, has since opened up to anyone in the Toronto community. The inclusivity of this program offered by Nike and the magazine means that there is yet another venue for Toronto community members to come together in a positive and healthy way. Why am I so thankful and what do I love about these group runs? And why should you come out? Here it is threefold.
First, it creates a supportive environment where members of the LGBTQ community can come together to foster and build upon common fitness goals.
Second, it creates a sense of accountability. By knowing that your peers will be there, sweating together, makes it harder to back out of and forces you to show up and be present.
Finally, and what I think is the best part about the #INRUNCREW, is that we push one anothers' limits. When I run alone I often lack the motivation to sprint the last 500 meters. But by surrounding myself with others from my community, I get that sense of friendly competition and motivation that is otherwise missing from solo runs.
So come on out and show us what you got! I look forward to seeing you and wish you all a happy Canadian Thanksgiving.
