KENZO x H&M
It's that time of year! Yes - today is Halloween - but it is also the time of year when little H&M elves drop off big boxes, filled with designer collaboration collections, to stores around the world. Luckily for me, this annual fashion holiday arrived early... I must have been a very good boy [insert halo emoji]. Thanks to H&M Canada, I was invited last week for a private preview of the KENZO x H&M collection.
When it comes to the H&M designer series, all conventional shopping pleasantries go bye-bye. There are massive lines, stampedes of faithfuls charging toward each year's #musthave pieces, followed by that feeling of sadness as it is next to impossible to get everything on your wish-list. BUT isn't anything worth having, worth fighting for? Ugh... YES, especially when it's designer pieces at H&M prices, cha-ching.
My history with the Swedish company's annual phenomenon started in 2011 when Hennes & Mauritz partnered with Versace. Then, in 2014, I would have fought tooth and nail for anything Alexander Wang x H&M, but I didn't have it in me - #majorregrets. And last year's collaboration, with Paris fashion house Balmain, was my first foray into the world of H&M designer collections - six pieces came home with me.
What I love about this year's collaboration with Kenzo, is that the majority of the men's collection is bright and bold with jungle themed colours and prints. This type of creative attitude screams individuality and shows us that when it comes to fashion, HAVE FUN! Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, the creative directors behind Kenzo and the founders of Opening Ceremony, must have had an absolute blast creating this collection. The marketing campaign pairs the distinctive and animalistic pieces with the likes of Chance The Rapper, Rosario Dawson, Chloe Sevigny, supermodel Iman, and others. While many of the pieces are loud and playful, I wanted to focus this story on the pieces available that ANY guy can pull off. You know, incase he is a bit hesitant to travel that deep into the jungle - ha! But seriously, regardless of where you fall on the fashion-jungle-fever spectrum, make sure to harness your inner cheetah when the doors open on November 3, 2016.
